MAKER: Victor Talking Machine MODEL: Victor V model C in Oak & E in Mahogany (or is it?) SERIAL #:V-V 58209 (E) #57632 (C) YEARS: C 1917 E 1922 ORIGINAL COST: $60 & $67.50 CASE/CABINET SIZE: 7.5"X18"X18" (C) & 8"X18"X18" (E) TURNTABLE/MANDREL SIZE: 12" REPRODUCER/SOUNDBOX: #2 MOTOR: 3 spring (The E should be 4 but it is 3 also and the label inside shows 3) HORN DIMENSIONS: #24 Brass flower on the E REPO PARTS: None CURRENT VALUE MINT: The C around $3000 and the E ? (Not necessarily this machine) INTERESTING FACTS: Both of these machines cases are bigger than the usual Victor 5 and the both have the semi-auto brake like a victrola would have. They are the only outside horned table top machines to have these from the factory. FAVORITE CHARACTERISTIC: The Oak C has the double patent labels where in 1917 they were sent out with a error so Victor mailed correct labels for the dealers to replace the old one with... And the E Model is MAHOGANY! Also the E is suppose to have the screw dial speed indicator but it has a round dial like the C???

The thing about the mahogany one is that it should be a E model but it has all the features of a C except it's wood material. I think it is a C and was custom ordered in mahogany. IMHO

Nice machines, Mooo. Too bad they don't play cylinders, though!
I thought that all Vs had the corner pillars but your "C" appears not to. What's the deal?

I want what you're smokin bro! It has the corner pillars... the V has "Mission" style pillars as in the photos and the 4 has round ones.
Nipper, the cranks on both are male. These are the only outside table tops that came from the factory with the auto stop like the Victrola. They use the same size top board as a Victrola so they inherited that function from the Victrola.

Apparently the machine (photo bottom right) on the left of the V is actually a Vic II. That is the machine I was referring to. It certainly didn't appear to be a Vic V - now I know it isn't. Thanks for the clarification.

MIT,
The serial # on the oak C is #57632
I only own the oak C and Wayne (Gramophone) owned the mahogany one. I wished I owned them both!

I love the machines. I've seen mahogany Vic 5"s that look like a giant Vic IV and others that looks like a typical Vic V only in mahogany. Was one style mostly made for export? Also, the 24B horn is spectacular. Jerry Blais
