MAKER: Victor MODEL: Colony SERIAL #: 6948, Factory dated October 10, 1925 YEARS: 1925-1926 ORIGINAL COST: $110.00 CASE/CABINET SIZE: 34" high X 28" wide X 20-1/2" deep TURNTABLE/MANDREL SIZE: 10" turntable REPRODUCER/SOUNDBOX: Orthophonic MOTOR: single spring HORN DIMENSIONS: Opening is 14-14" wide X 12" tall REPO PARTS: none CURRENT VALUE MINT: ? hard to say in this economy (Not necessarily this machine) INTERESTING FACTS: This machine started out with a single spring & no grill cloth, but after the first of the year in 1926, not only was a grill cloth added but a double spring motor was included. This model has the same horn as the Victor Consolette it's just a bigger cabinet. The Colony never sold well & was discontinued in 1926. Approximately 20,000 units were made. I think that it didn't sell well because the cabinet is plain compared to the Consolette. FAVORITE CHARACTERISTIC: I like the look of the wood horn! Also, there is a little more storage for records compared to the Consolettte. The Victor Data Book says that there is space for roughly 75 records in the Colony, but the Consolette can only hold around 40. I also did a Youtube video of my machine playing on the Vocalion label Pine Top Smith's "Pine Top Blues" #1245.

I love it! I actually like the plainer look more than the Consolette. Great video too

Looks great, sounds great, the open horn is really neat...
However, following Moo's advice would end up at the chiropractor's for me... ow

Really neat machine!!! I have two of these; one really rough and one really nice with almost new-looking finish. It came with a brass sound box that was nickel plated and with a one spring motor.

Yep, based on the serial #, mine was built a couple of months or so after production started on this model. Orthophonic, one day I'm going to get a brass reproducer that is nickel plated of course. So far no problems with cracking & swelling w/ the soundbox, but eventually that pot metal will catch up with me!
