I was looking thru old postings last evening and came across my posting on the summer phono-drought was experiencing. Here latley it's been just the opposite.
I generally take a cruise out I-10 to attend the local auction that is about 25 miles out of town. I have not had much luck there lately and was telling my daughter, who accompanies me that we probably wouldn't be long. Off to one side, there were some junker phonographs but with them, a Fireside horn. I told my daughter, Hmmm, I guess we'll stay a while after all. She was wandering on the other side of the building and came back and asked me if I saw the tabletop model that was there. I was thinking Victor IX or a Columbia, those have shown up before.
However, I was surprised, shocked, and delighted to see what was over there. At this auction, they get shipments from the UK and other European shippers so I guess this found it's way across the Atlantic from Belgium in that manner. Although there is no decal, I'm pretty sure that it is original and not messed with. When we got home, I looked thru my resources quickly and did not find one like it although there are a number of fancy Pathe table models in our favorite series of books.
Here it is, I didn't even wipe the dust off of it yet. It does have a broken mainspring- probably to my advantage since there was only one bidder besides me and he only bid one time. The rubber connector between the reproducer and tonearm is hard as concrete and resulted in the repro twisting out of line slightly. Other than those 2 slight problems, it is a pretty neat looking machine.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Steve
