I was at an antique store and i came across this Silvertone open horn phonograph. I looked on line to see whether this machine is a genuine or replica or an outright crapophone. It has a $795 price tag to it. The spring is possibly broken or just came off the arbour shaft. I need to find out if this machine is real there is no serial number on it. I do not know if the reproducer is an oxford one. Where the horn attaches to the tonearm it has EMCO letters stamped to it. The motor is held on the motorboardby 4 screws going through the motorboard and 4 nuts securing the screws which stick out a quarter of an inch above the nuts

Here is a closeup of the reproducer. which just pushes in a slot into a pin on the tonearm. the brake mechanism stops the turntable from the outside edge not the inside as on most models. Real or fake any suggestions?

I have already looked under sears roebuck adds under Harvard oxford Silvertone. The closest one i came to was a 1909 model. Which of course are in black and white

columbia shows nothing. There is no matching company (EMCO) either canada, states or England that has made such a horn. But i still do not know whether it is real or not. Any suggestions?

Silvertone never made an open horn phonograph. To me, the machine looks like a hodge-podge of old parts put together. I'd stay away from it. I'm glad to see this forum coming alive again. Harvey Kravitz

The tin horn is a 3 peice brazed unit and painted over. I kinda figured so. I only found that Harvard and oxford and columbia had a thing for a while with sears Robuck. It seemed like silvertone came along at a later date in the sears Robuck scene

The Emco horn is not right. Silvertone never made external horn machines and the reproducer and tonearm are not original. The standard model A had a 9 panelled horn. The tone arm is out of a silvertone floor model internal horn phonograph.
