I just recieved 3 new governor springs for my 1916 Victor Victrola VV-VI. Serial #220156 F. Even though it doesnt have the suffix A behind it. It has the revised single barrel 2 spring motor in it. It has the hook in springs instead of the pear shaped holes in the springs( if this will help). Anyways I gave the parts supplier a sample spring (governor). The new springs he gave me are a bit thicker but shorter and he sweared up and down that they will work even though shorter. I installed them and here the brake pad slider bushing gap is closer to the bottom bracket where the springs screw in. Everything is assembled properly. But my speed control is screwed all the way down. It works ok. Would it be wise to shave some of the brake pad bushing down to obtain the proper gap and carefully bend the L shape brake pad wick holder slightly away from the brake pad to compensate for the shorter springs or would this be an unwise procedure. I knew this supplier for years but i have never gotten governor supplies off him. Would it be better to get the proper length springs if one can. These springs i have are stiffer and anodized blue but narrower and shorter. I know for a fact that if i just bend the pad wick holder away from the pad that the pad is going to bottom out and send the turntable for a fast ride. I don't like the idea of having the speed control turned all the way in. And I think my. Extended play Leopold Stotkowski The nutcracker suite is playing a tad bit too slow Whereas the regular 78s play fine.
