What's the going price on John McCormack 78rpms? I ask because I saw a collection of about 12 sf records of JM in an antique store that looked almost new. They wanted $75 for the set. I didn't know who he was, so I looked him up first and found some samples. Great singer, but just not the type of vocalist I'm interested in. I just wanted to get an idea of that was overpriced or a good deal. If it's a good deal, I may pick them up to pass on to somebody who does like him. Not to make a buck, but just to find them a good home.

JM recordings were produced in great quantities and they're pretty easy to find. As with most common 78s, the going rate would be anywhere from zero to 3 or 4 bucks. Probably in the 1 dollar range for most JM. Again, this depends on the condition, the tune, the buyer and the seller. A vast majority of 78s are overpriced by sellers.
Classical music in general is not as sought after as the more popular dance tunes of the day, thus not as valuable.
There are some online record auctions that consistently have exceptional quality records, and those generally go for high prices. The run of the mill stuff you find in antique malls is usually the type of records nobody really wants.

Thanks for the info. They sound a little on the high side at about $6 per record. I found a very thorough discography of his recordings on the JM Society website, same place I found the samples of his singing. www.mccormacksociety.co.uk/.
