Well Zeppy, I think it would have been a fine changing table. Flip down area for the baby to lay, Supplies in the record storage area and some nice Caruso to play to develop Little Zep's mind! That was exactly my argument!!!! Unfortunately the wife didn't see it that way. It turns out she wanted things like drawers to store baby's clothes rather than record storage. Can you believe how unreasonable she was?

Thanks all for info.
Moo. Would like to go over the logistics of this.
>>IF you really want a long distance craigslist find that is not a huge floor model machine. Just tell them to take it to their local UPS store, contact the manager that (FILL IN THE BLANK) is bringing a Victor 6 with mahogany horn and that he should give the certified bank check to them
Ok. So you lost me a bit.
I assume that first you must pay the seller before they will go anywhere or do anything on your behalf.
But, do you pay the UPS at your location to foward money to UPS at their (seller) location with enough money included for shipping?
(I'd guess the point here is to make sure the phono/etc gets packed correct and seller get's paid which also serves as incentive to take phono to UPS)
The buisness with the certified check. How do you get it to the UPS store for management to give to the seller? Does this take additional mailing time? (might miss out on quick deals).
>>and that he is to pack it and change it to your credit card. Usually you get such a good deal that you can afford the extra $40-$70 in good packing.
Another point of confusion for me. What inspires the seller to give a good deal in this method? (Is it allieviating them the burden of packaging it..?)

Ah man, I think I get it now...!
Hello Mr. X.
I have a $NNNN.NN check waiting for you now at the UPS store at this location 123abc street (yahoo map link).
If this is acceptable, simply take the phono to the UPS location and the manager XXXX YYYY will hand you the check on my behalf. He will package the phono too, so you don't have to worry.
Let me know what you think.

I guess you have to have a price agreement first. So to tell the UPS manager what check amount to make (which gets charged to your card).
I wonder if you could forward an image of the expected phono to the UPS manager so s/he would know what to expect.
So they don't toss a brick in a box and say, here it is...!

rj...
you almost have it... !. you seal the deal with the seller and they agree to drop the item off at the UPS store that they say is closest. 2. Then you contact that store using the UPS site to get contact info. Talk to the manager, describe the item or email him the criagslist ad. 3. Overnight payment (Usually MO or certified check) to that manager and he makes the swap at his store. 4. When making the deal you have to take into account that the shipping will be high because the UPS store is going to charge for the packing. 5. UPS store charges your card for shipping...
Usually you are going after a long distance deal because it is a bargain or rare machine otherwise you pass on that common Edison standard for $1400. Now $100 is a different story.

Thanks Moo, makes sense.
Another thing, seems like there should be a way to search craiglist for a certain item and not have to go state by state, town by town. Probably software out there that does it.

Hi Jim. Considering its completeness and condition, it's a very good deal. Maybe about a third to a half of what it should fetch. It's always this way with me: when prices are low, so are my finances. I hope whoever gets it will enjoy it (and doesn't mess with it too much). Glad to see you on the Mooboard! Martin
