Hello all, I somewhat recently acquired an Edison Banner cased Home with the Model D repeating attachment. It is still dirty and needs a new mainspring but I was playing with the mechanism today by hand. Since I have never had one of these before or seen one in the working mode, I have a couple of questions. How does the mechanism actually engage? I see the pin on the right side collar, but it doesn't seem to trip it into position. When it does spiral back towards the beginning, how does it actually disengage? I know these are simpleton questions probably, but this doesn't seem to engage or disengage the way I thought it would. Could someone who knows about these give me a class 101 on the Model D repeater, I would sure appreciate it ! Thank you, ColoCrank

Colocrank,
You're correct in that the pin on the right-hand collar will catch the shoe on the end of the repeater arm, lift it suddenly, and deposit it on the return screw. If yours doesn't do this, check your half-nut to be sure the carriage is moving toward that collar. If necessary, place your carriage far enough to the right so the pin must engage the shoe, and slowly turn the repeater gear at the left. The carriage should be lifted onto the return screw.
Unfortunately, the shoe at the end of your repeater arm is missing a tail that hangs down and is tripped by the adjustable nickeled square rod directly below the return screw. Without it, your repeater won't drop the carriage back onto the straight-edge.
If you're handy with tools, perhaps you can fashion a lightweight metal tail to your shoe that would enable your repeater to function again. Good luck!

Oops - - long day! Your shoe IS NOT missing the tail! The shoe rides on the return screw with the tail down behind the screw - not the way you have it pictured. Your repeater appears complete and functional! Sorry about the confusion - - I'm going to bed now! George P.
