I don't want to start a huge debate but who is the best person to restore an Orthophonic reproducer? I have a minty potmetal one with no cracks etc that may need a tune up and a brass one that I am buying on Tuesday. Who really is the best at servicing these tricky reproducers.......? Thanks!

I've never had an Orthophonic restored but John Nagy (Iowa) has always done wonderful reproducer work for me. Jerry Blais

I've had Walt Sommers repair/tune several reproducers. He's done exceptional work for a reasonable price. He's on this board as "victorguywalt".

I would recommend Walt also, very helpful with information too and really knows Victrola stuff. So far I've done the ball bearing replacement on my own Orthophonic soundboxes (three of them), but it is not an easy task and can get frustrating. With my thick spectacles off, my eyes are like high-powered microscopes which is a plus for me when dealing with these tiny parts. Walt supplied most of the stuff I needed. I'm just doing it to fill my free retirement time, so I would still recommend sending yours out to an expert like this who can do a perfect job.

Peter Wall in San Francisco just refurbished my orthophonic reproducer for under $50. He didn't take it all apart because of pot metal issues, but he replaced and regreased the ball bearings and added a rubber sealing ring to the back. Sounds great to me. He does most of his business on eBay as peterw4214: myworld.ebay.com/peterw4214/?_trksid=p4340.l2559
