In case anyone is interested I have recently posted a short you tube video showing how I transfer sound from a 78rpm disk and in broad terms the processing of the sound. Its very basic but it shows how I do it. RJ

Richard,
That was a wonderful presentation and explanation of your process.
It would be fun to add a soundtrack typical of a 1950's American educational serial for its entertainment value. I do not know if the UK used similar. Yours is just perfect as is. I'm just being cheeky.
James.

James,
thanks for your comments. I chose the music carefully after listening to several different tracks as I wanted it to match the whole "tongue in cheek" style of the presentation - which you picked up on.
The music was originally used in the uk in the early 1950s on television as "interlude" music ie when a live transmission went wrong or something broke this was used to fill the air time. The music was accompanied by a potter using a potters wheel. It is in fact on You tube (see below). There were different films used such as a spinning wheel, London to Brighton in 4 minutes (massivly speeded up train footage!), kittens playing etc.
