I recently got an Edison Home Phonograph that was missing the reproducer. It is a "Combination Type - Model E" and the sticker in the cover explains how to change between a C and H reproducer for 2 and 4 minutes. I bought a model H reproducer on eBay and found that it was way too small for the carriage arm. My reproducer is about 1 1/2 inch in diameter and the ring in the carriage arm is about 2 inch. Are there actually 2 different sizes of model H reproducers? I searched all the web sites who sell phonograph parts and nobody ever mentions sizes for Edison reproducers. Am I missing something, maybe an adapter ring? Any insight would be highly appreciated. Oh yes, and could anyone tell me what year it was built? It is a Model E with electric "Universal Motor", serial number 395640. Thanks

Hi! It sounds like you have the large carrier (correct for the Model E). They typically came with the model O reproducer (2&4 min). You could also use a Diamond B reproducer (for 4 minute Blue Amberols only). There are adapters out there to adapt the smaller size reproducer to the larger carrier. (I've seen 'em go for $40-50 on ebay.)
It was common practice for the Edison company to re-purpose older models. My Model E Standard has the "Change of Reproducers" sticker (from a model D), in its lid with part of an oversticker with an "E" on it. Many of these overstickers got removed - probably because there was a cool sticker with writing on it underneath. Either that, or your yours was a replacement for a missing lid.
The "Edison Cylinder Phonograph Companion" by George Frow lists the Home Model E as being introduced in March 1911. Hope this helps!

Dear Martinola, thank you very much for this information. Now I know at least what I am looking for. Yes, you are correct, the sticker in my lid talks about changing reproducers in a model D. I've been looking for the "Edison Cylinder Phonograph Companion", but it's out of print and not available at the moment - at least not for a decent price. Thanks again Andreas
