The noise it makes sounds like a kitten purring. It's actually quite relaxing and not heard over the music when playing, so I will live with it. Thanks for the oiling tips!

I suspect Some one wound it to tight and the inner hook cam off the shaft there is a hook on the outer barrell case then an inner one the inner one I bet is either off the hook and or broken these are spring steel springs tricky to work with I have the same but in Tiger Oak it is a table model I am missing 1 louver hard to locate but al most fully restored here are some pics before when i got it it was just the case I had to buy the tonearm and the motor. Hi there...I recently inherited a columbia grafonola that looks just like the one picutred in the original post. I'm having it restored, so I want to buy some records for it. Therein lies the problem. I'm digital mp3 kid, so the whole vinyl game is new to me. When I look on ebay for records, I'm not sure I'm finding what will work for this machine.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction or tell me what I'm looking for as far as type/speed/whathaveyou for records for this grafonola?
I'd love to have some records to play when it gets done. Oh, by the way, it is getting a diamond tip needle, if that makes a different.
