I recently bought an Edisonic Schubert model DD that is "rough" but restorable. This is a very exciting find for me because it is the first "new" phonograph that has been added to my collection in over 25 years, I've been a collector for over 40. The Edisonic is one phonograph that I never expected to own but this one became available and was too good to pass up.
It has a few problems so I'm hoping that other collectors will be able to help me with them. First of all the brass ferrule that attaches the reproducer to the horn is off. It looks like it was originally soldered on the end of the horn but I'm afraid that if I try to re-solder it the black paint on the horn will be damaged and the ferrule discolored. What is the best way to re-attach this to the end of the horn without harming the finish or parts? Epoxy glue maybe? What have others done?
It is also missing the door pulls, does anyone sell replacements or have suggestions for a suitable substitute?
The last thing is a piece of veneer missing from the top. For some reason the top has been stripped and from looking at the few pictures posted of other machines it's difficult to tell exactly what the missing piece of veneer looks like as far as dimensions go.
Other than the previously mentioned problems this machine is complete. It would of course benefit from a good refinishing especially with the missing veneer from the top but I really want to find out what it sounds like.
Thanks in advance for any help.
