hello im from maine ... i decided 2 wkends ago to go yrd saleing...well, there was this old potatoe house right full of everything and anything you could think of or possibly want .on the lower floor of this place aka cellar ..behind all this stuff piled around and in frt of...was this 1/2 hidden sign that said victrola 75.00 ..so without even trying to go dig for it .{and possibly getting avalanched on} ..i decided to go talk to the guy who had this place...about it. well after bargaining and without looking at it.. i agreed to 30.00 regardless. so off i went to get the car and he.. to proceed to unearth it. well it was frzing out and i just wanted to load and go before it started to rain/ snow.." who knows in maine !!!! " so off i went home to unload it BY MYSELF ..well i did it ...upside down with nothing broken!!!! i never worked so hard for something SO HEAVY!!! mind you im 4 ft 11 !! so i got it inside and proceeded to put it up right without snapping the legs on it..which i was successful!!!! phew!!!!! i saw 1 frt leg broken with a bolted piece of wood as a replacement..it was covered in mold/paint and dirt.and smelled horrid!!! so off to put on gloves and a bucket of pine sol..after 3 buckets later.... i could see the finish!! and missing veneer and all the scarring it had done to it..poor thing!!!! well its missing a frt left leg and the record rack. it came with 1 record and 3 needle holders to put on the arm. after much research i found out its a 210. made in 1920s to 24. so for kicks i played the record.. it was scratchy and the turn table needed to stop rubbing.but it played;];];] so off to do more research..which lead me to you and another site ;];] so since then i have replaced the turntable felting with success;];];] and i also decided to haul out the motor with success last nite. to see if i could degrease and re grease this poor thing.. well the cabinet is scrubbed and vacumed..and the motor is on the coffee table .i pmed a george vollema on fb waiting for his reply on this motor. i havent touched it. that thing is a mess !!!! its still on the mounting brd. im still happy about it..my question is what to use to de grease..... inside the house??? without hurting it. i have it ALL IN MY LIVING RM. i need something safe to work with. i cant take it down cellar due to its all closed up tight for winter..and the garage is not insulated so its as cold inside as outside. and the other site is telling me to degrease with gas or kero ..umm not happening in this house...in november...in maine. i need an alternative without hurting it. any ideas? as for tear down i watch a guy on u tube called chillguy 2007 who has step by step of breakdown/ cleaning and put back together..the only thing im nervous about is the spring casing. but he did it outside in summer with gas.i was thinking of denatured rubbing alcohol - white vinager- or something that isnt going to kill me with fumes or explode in the house.... any ideas? for lubercants : i have the following WD40 - 3 n 1 oil - and all purpose valvoline grease for vehicles. i think i also need to get motor oil too as a lubercant. times like this i wish i had a workshp. any suggestions?
