I am still looking out for one of those tungstone ever-play needles - the type with the supply of tungstone wire that you feed out as needed. If you have one for sale please let me know (even if it is out of wire). thanks RJ

Henry -
Do you know if the seller still has these needles? That ad was from 2002. Selling price is $9 - seems reasonable if these are as claimed.
SOS -
Can you give us a hint as to what the NOS "ever-play" needles would sell for? I can only assume its much more than the needles that Henry mentioned.

I bought my Ever-play needle last year on Ebay, where a well-known record seller would include one or two in the listings spread over a couple weeks. The price range was about $96 to $135 dollars if I remember correctly. I think I paid about $115. They do work well, especially if you make sure you haven't fed out too much tungsten wire, because the tip can be easily bent and cause playback distortion. Of course you can trim the tip if this happens but it's a waste of wire. You can also tell when the tip gets too short, as the sound starts distorting too. The best length is where you can just feel the point with your fingertip, as mentioned in the directions in the new old stock envelope. I can understand why collectors and dealers hold on to these. Good luck finding yours! Bob B.
PS: I read somewhere that MAPS is trying to work with Bagshaws to make up new tungsten needles. Is this true?

Hi, thanks for the comments so far. In terms of what I would pay for one of these everplay needles I would pay in the range indicated by Bob above ie in the region of $120. If anyone has one they would like to sell please drop me a PM. RJ

Auxetophile,
Sorry, I can no longer find this seller either. I will keep looking and let you know if I find him; I did buy from him on eBay. I used a child's microscope to check the tip after many plays and it looked fine, no cutting edge.
Regards,
Henri

Carsten in CA bought a whole box of them... we were both bidding on them and he outbid me. He gave me one and I really like it. He has been selling some of them off on ebay. Not sure if he is done selling or not.

Interesting point (no pun intended)about the everplay. If you turn it a certain way you can play vertical cut records.
