This sounds like a fantastic way to buy and sell phono items. I'll be looking forward to it that weekend. BTW, 5 April is my birthday. Maybe I'll get myself a birthday present.

Yep Freak, I think we are going to have a great turnout on sellers and hopefully buyers too. The other boards are helping promote it (Thanks to all) and we need everybody to tell their friends to come by and take a peak.
TELL EVERYBODY!

Do you think it might be a good idea, that once a dealer receives an email & negotiations begin, that the dealer place a "HOLD" sign beside the item? I'm just wondering what happens if a dealer has 5 people email him for the same item, what's to stop the dealer selling it to the 5th person because the dealer & buyer are friends The "hold" sign can always be taken down if a sale falls through for whatever reason.
Also, when a dealer replies to a buyer, should the buyer be informed that they are 1st, 2nd, 3rd in line for the item? At least then the buyer knows where he stands, and it may prevent a dealer playing favorites, or buyers from trying to submit higher offers to knock someone out of the race. Otherwise, it may be like picking something up to look at, and having someone grab it out of your hands & run off with it before you had a chance to place it back on the table.

I think it would be good to ask the dealer when you are well into conversations to place a HOLD on the item until the dealing is done... as for the "what place am I in" most replies from the dealers if the the item is currently in negotiations should let you know... I know if I had an item and you were next in line I'd let you know. Of course we won't be able to keep folks from playing favorites. It happens at live shows and I'm sure it will happen here. That's when it pay to be like Sharon (3Vic) and be bestest friends with everybody!

Does a seller have to ship or can you deliver to the Union show? Also, is it ok to offer free stuff? I think this up coming sale is an interesting idea from a buyer point of view, but for me it's going to be difficult to sell because I've never shipped such large items. Another words, I'm completely clueless as to how & what it would cost to ship something like that Brunswick upright I have.

Sharon, Jeff and I have discussed the option of sellers delivering bought items to Union and I know that I will be making the trip this year and I am sure that possibly other collectors will be more onboard for buying with the thought of meeting up at the show to pickup their newly bought treasures and save the hassle of possibly having it damaged in shipping. Maybe some can help others out by hauling larger items for others in their area also.

Sharon, free stuff is always welcome just be ready for a stamped from the cheap old geezers!!
There are several live shows in the near future that maybe the sellers can post with the larger items that they may be attending those shows. Shipping floor models is always a real deal breaker unless it is a very high end model. I've never done it but they say that if it isn't too large that greyhound is dirt cheap... like $100 or so. Others might could tell us of their experience.
Wes is right.. usually there is always someone willing to bring back something to their home state and then the non attending buyer could pick it up from them and give them a little gas money for their troubles.

Jeff is right, we have both hauled hoards of stuff back for eachother on alternate trips and I don't mind hauling to and from the show if there is room in the trailer. I figure that most of us are in this hobby for the same reasons so why not help out your fellow collector by hauling a new project home for them.

we have both hauled hoards of stuff back for each other Umm, right. That reminds me of the last Union show Moo attended. As I remember, Moo was running out of space in his Suburban & was debating if he should strap a machine he was bringing back for you to the roof or his dad. Jeff was worried you'd be mad if that machine fell off & broke into a million pieces on the way home.

Not that it will matter to anyone, but there isn't anyone in my state that I could ask for a "shuttle service". I cannot afford to travel to a phono show, so everything I have acquired has been done the hard way. It also generally meant the most expensive way. I also have had problems in the past with either extremely slow delivery or never receiving merchandise at all. If I sound Bitter, its because I am -- those instances still sting. I would like to know what will be done if any problems arise from this show. If this sounds like Sour Grapes -- well, its because I was Harassed online & off for "Outing" dishonest sellers for the benefit of others... I realize that the majority of the community is trustworthy, but it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the whole experience for many. 8===8 Little Nipper

Ahem!If there is a stampede from "the cheap old geezers" its because some of us do not have the Deep Pockets of some of the members of this board. Many "old geezers" are on a fixed income. They also are being Hurt Heavily by the state of the economy. Shame on you, Mooo for saying such a thing! (Yes, I know you were being Humorous). *Jumps Up & Bites Mooo's Tail* 8===8 Little Nipper

IF a problem arises in which either the buyer does not follow through or the seller does not ship the item or terribly misrepresents the item, me and the 2 staff members will weigh the problem and if found at fault, that seller/buyer will be banned from participating in any future virtual sales on ATM. unlike ebay, we don't make any money so keeping a seller so we can make commission is not an issue... keeping an wholesome event is. That's about all we can do but it will at least keep it from happening again. Regards Mooo
