I am restoring two identical world class record cabinets. I own one and a phono friend owns the other. The cabinets are decorated with lions heads and have curved doors and inside will have eighty shelves on each side for individual record storage. Each cabinet is missing the record shelves so I am making replacements. It seems like green felt is the usual color chosen to cover record shelves on similar cabinets. My friend wants green so that's what he will get. The final color for the mahogany will be a red mahogany. I took one of the doors to a local fabric store and burgundy felt looked great with the red mahogany. I need your vote.... green or burgundy for my cabinet. I'll try to post before and after photos when the project is finished. Thanks, Jerry Blais

My vote is to please yourself. If you were planning to sell it, you might want to go with the green. But if you like the burgundy, go for it.

Hummm... since it's a refinish I don't see why you can't adjust the color to your liking (Burgundy was a popular color too - Edison's grille clothes were usually one of those two colors.) I too would think Burgundy would look great.

I'd stick with the original green...or hunt down a second turntable so you can have one of each

Jerry,
Remember that not all record cabinets - especially high-end ones - had shelves. Some used albums, but it sounds like you're describing a Salter cabinet with horizontal shelves. Salter always used green felt for its cabinets - at least I've never seen any other color on one!
Good luck Jerry - -

Jerry,
Your description of the cabinets sounds very nice. I think I would stick with the green color but maybe not the bold bright green you usually see. I wonder if a pool table supplier might have a color that is a bit more like a sea mist green (to give it an older look). I vote for the green.

Glad to see you here Colo!
Jerry - I vote standard green too. Most of my cabinets have green felt though one of the H&S cabinets uses a gold felt.

Just print the felt in the background for this site and use it... no charge!

If you are not seeing all the pretty colors and art I did then go to your profile, go to modify profile then select "Old Time" at the Skins Choices. It's the default but some browsers might not obey the command.
I just changed yours rj... did it change layout for you?
