I have always had a fondness for Christmas cylinders such as "Silent Night" and "Santa Claus Hides in your Phonograph" to bring back the Nostalgia of the earlier days where people used their only form of entertainment to play early recordings at that time of year. I recently found "Oh Holy Night, Christmas song" by Frieda Hempel on a purple Amberol cylinder. And I also found a cylinder which I had never encountered before which is a 4 minute blue amberol "Christmas at Sea" National Military Band and Male Quartet. Edison Blue Amberol 23150, November 1913. It is quite interesting and talks about sailors being away from home. It goes on with various medleys of songs and ends with all them singing "Auld Lang Syne". It was a fun addition to the collection. Do any of you have other favorites which we should all know about?

I only have one and it came with other records I bought this month. It is not my focus of listening pleasure. It turns out to very nice and a keeper.
Christmas Memories (celeste solo) by Robert Gayler Edison BA 3330

Heh Colocrank, Funny you should mention the cylinder " Santa Claus Hides in Your Phonograph". I just found a copy of it at a local Antique store along with #2697 The Three Little Bears- A bed Time Story. The first Cylinder is real strange. I imagine it was made to be played to children, but honestly it gives me the creeps!! The voice of Santa Claus and his laughter sound down right Demonic. If i was a little kid and listened to that i think i would have night mares. Pete

"O holy night " would have to be THE christmas cyliner on my want list followed closely by "Hark the herald angels sing". Both great tunes, popular and which seem to go for a lot of $$. BTW I cam e accross this great you tube site. Not a bad piano player and has a great selection of old tunes (as well as newer stuff on his site) Just to get you in the christmas mood......
