Just think, our machines have survived two world wars, the Great Depression, 6 or 7 major recessions and somehow they were saved and often cherished. Why would there be nobody to continue collecting phonographs? I started collecting 2 years ago in my 20s. I had two same age roommates who thought I was crazy. I'd say the vast majority of friends who come over have never seen an acoustic phonograph in their life. It's exciting and sad at the same time.

Ya'll know Scott adopted me yet I'm still the black sheep of the family. I bet he don't leave me nothing in his will but a show shovel. What am I going to do with a snow shovel???

It's a little early (I hope) to think much about inheritance. He did ask and receive a Victrola Granada about a year ago. He plays it daily. Now I am being bothered for a cylinder machine which he will get eventually. I haven't had the time to put an Edison Home back together for him yet. Don't worry about having to have too many machines. Unlike many current collectors, I don't believe that there will not be anybody to continue the hobby. Just think, our machines have survived two world wars, the Great Depression, 6 or 7 major recessions and somehow they were saved and often cherished. Why would there be nobody to continue collecting phonographs? I know its a bit early to think of inheritance but I just wondered what his thoughts on phonos were...Im glad to see he likes them... He should join the board it could really get him even more enthused he would love it here like i have... And i some times wonder about my generation and the interest of phonos...I have mixed thoughts so i really am unsure what will happen... Aaron

Even Edison's birthday is in February! Of course, if you want a February that matches the day of Edison first Phonograph patent, and the date of Berliner's basic Gramophone patent - the last one engraved on most Berliner discs - there's only one option: the 19th! I was supposed to be born on the 22nd... George P.

Moo,
I think it's simple: We collect old things to feel young. Once you hit that magic age, you collect new things to feel young......

I'm really surprised there are no collectors on here over 65... Do you know a lot of people over 65 who regularly use the internet and would know the concept of an online forum?

On the old board we had a few members in their late 60's and 70's. A few.

Best regards, Larry I think our parents were feeling frisky as summer approached (May/June). Spring is the season of fertility. You, GFP and I are proof of that apparently.

From the Gleemanguy: Looks like I'm the old geezer. Just had a birthday so I am officially the big 67. Sometimes I start dialing telephone numbers on the TV Remote. I personally relate to the cartoon "Pickles". He is my HERO!

For a number of reasons I believe that we (on the ATM) are younger on average than the overall phonograph collecting community. I am curious just how old we are - - - please vote! Remember this is just for fun......we are an equal opportunity message board.......there will be no discrimination of any kind (unless of course you are an evil troll and deserve to be discriminated against....) New meat just registered. Might be the oldest 75 in a couple of weeks Don

Welcome Don! It's great to see you here. You have joined the newest (and best in my opinion) phono-message board on the net. Please jump in and post away.
Regards, Scott
