Hey new guys (and gals),
Feel free to take our poll on how old you are. So far it's been interesting to see that we are still young enough to enjoy collecting for another couple of decades (and possibly more).

I'm 26, and almost all my friends around the same age don't know I collect phonographs. The couple of friends i've shown my collection too say: Why do you like that old stuff? The rest of them would probability say the same thing, so i don't bother showing them.

Fwd, FYI I'm 30 years older and I don't bother my friends with my collection either

Very few people have ever seen my collection in the flesh and it's fine with me if it stays that way!
Non phono collectors just dont understand us lot so why put them or ourselves through the trauma?
It's the same with music. Have you ever tried talking to someone who thinks that a music collection is the hard-drive of an iPod? Have you ever "justified" your collection of records to anyone?
I'm in the 38-44 category but I can remember being 20 like it was yesterday. When you get over 20, the decades fly by and you don't notice it like you would do when you were very young. I guess it's because little "happens" after that glorious age?! You get settled in your own home-made rut and you kinda stay there for the next 50 years! ;D

I'm in the 59-65 group. I think I voted in the poll but I can't remember. Anyway, I rarely shared my collection except with the occasional fellow phono enthusiast. Other people just aren't usually intrested. Steve, wait until you advance a couple more categories and see what happens.

I show my collection to every person I can trick into my web... you guys are right about 9 out of 10 just don't get it but when that one comes along and are amazed by the machines it is a real joy to see their eyes light up and they start asking a million questions. It reminds me of my love at firs sight moment.
2 years ago we had a Christmas party for married couples from our church. I set up the buffet in the middle of the phono room (Back when I had room left) No big thrill for anyone but this one guy about my age... we didn't see him the rest of the night. Read every piece of literature I had.

You ether love them or hate them, and one group don't understand the other.

I don't know if it's an "age" issue but just occasionally (very occasionally, folks, before y'all get too excited ) I forget why I've got all this stuff! The other night I sat in "my room" looking at all the machines and asking myself (not out loud) why I had bought this that and the other. It took me an hour and 20 odd records later to realise that I'm as hooked now as I ever was. To not be a phono collector would be unthinkable.

Hello Had to post in the 45-51 group but will be 52 in less than 2 months been collecting for about 6 yrs. If you're a paycheck to paycheck worker like me you really can't start "collecting " till the kids move out
